Christie and the Mechanical, Alien Spiders by Christie from Fairfield, Manchester

Deep, deep in the jungle in the middle of Africa (I think it may have been what used to be called the Congo but am not quite sure) lurked something terrifying and suspicious (well more than one "something" actually).

They had eight legs, they were made of steel and they worked by all sorts of cogs and ratchets.  Their two front legs held the largest, most powerful, machine-guns ever seen.

Yes, you have guessed it - they were a tribe of armed, mechanical, alien spiders.

The people who lived in the jungle were frightened quite silly and took to running about, hither and thither, making silly, frightened noises and, quite frankly looking rather ridiculous, but then I suppose so would we.

Christie was out for a pleasant walk through the thickest bit of the jungle, carrying a small watering can as she had, earlier, seen a rather nice Venus Fly Trap which was looking a bit thirsty.

Suddenly she was surrounded by the armed, mechanical, alien spiders and for just a moment she froze.  Then her mind clicked into gear (a bit like the mechanical spiders now I come to think of it!) and she, quite simply, started to "water" the spiders with her watering can.

Their joints began to splutter.  Sparks flew out of the machine guns and a terribly creaking and croaking could be heard for miles around.  They came to a stop and sank stiffly onto the jungle floor.

What a nice end to the tale you are all thinking!  Well no, actually, because unfortunately the sparks from the machine guns set light to some of the trees and the jungle burned down (completely).
