Joe and the Sharks by anonymous
The city of Ayr was in great difficulty. Instead of the usual peaceful river flowing through the city they had a stretch of water full to the brim with sharks. There were basking sharks, nurse sharks, great white sharks (even some small black ones!).
Because the people in the city were so fascinated by all these sharks they kept leaning over the walls for a better look and kept falling in!
Unfortunately, since there were so many sharks in the water, the people didn't stand a chance, if they could swim fast enough to get away from one kind of shark you could bet your bottom dollar they couldn't get away from the next!
What to do?
Joe, a rather nice lad of about fourteen, had just been given a speed-boat for his birthday (well, his father was rather rich you know) and so had several of his friends. So they launched their speedboats into the river and for the next six days spent all day, every day, zooming around in the water saving the people as they fell over the walls.
The sharks, by this time (after the six days mentioned above), got a bit fed up - partly because they were getting no nice wriggly food and partly because they all had headaches from the zooming of the speedboats.
So, quite simply, they all left and looked for somewhere else a little quieter.
