Kenneth and the Ghost Machine - by Kenneth from Sleat
Kenneth was going on a school trip to the local Castle (Castle Domburton or somesuch name). Most of his friends were down with the flu, so apart from Penelope Purseglove and her friend (Kenneth couldn't quite see who it was since it was all wrapped up in pink canvas), there was only him and Mr Throgmorton, the history teacher.
They arrived at the castle and were surprised to see a hairy figure rushing out of the main door, screaming and shouting.
"It's blooming haunted!!! There's ghosts all over the blooming place!!!" screeched the hairy figure.
Mr Throgmorton looked frightened. Penelope was nowhere to be seen and the "friend" squatted silently on the drive.
Kenneth took a deep breath and marched up to the front door.
"Watch out!" he shouted. "I'm coming in!!"
Crouching low, like a paratrooper on landing, he made his way into the Great Hall. He looked up and could see shapes and faces swirling around him, all laughing horribly.
He looked down and there in the corner was a machine. He crawled over to it and there, written in big letters, were the words "Ghost Despatcher Machine". Now, Kenneth wasn't quite sure what this machine actually did, but decided that things couldn't be worse than they were at the moment. He flicked the switch.
The ghosts went crazy. They danced, they hurled themselves about, they screeched and wailed. Kenneth thought his head would burst.
Suddenly he felt someone slither in beside him. He looked down and there was the "friend". A grey, slimy hand reached out to the machine and switched the switch on and off again.
With a puff of smoke and a smell of burning, the ghosts all disappeared. Kenneth looked at "the friend" in amazement. "The Friend" kicked the machine and muttered:
"No probs! See!!"
Unfortunately, as he kicked the machine it turned itself on again, bits of ghost started to reappear and rush around looking for the other bits of themselves, the machine jammed and started to heat up.
"The Friend" grabbed Kenneth and they rushed out of the door.
The machine blew up just as they made it and Castle Domburton is now closed to the public since bits of ghosts going more and more crazy as they can't find the rest of themselves are really not good for business.
"The Friend"? Oh that was Penelope Purseglove's Pet Poltergeist! Not as efficient as he might have been of course but Kenneth and he became very good friends and went on lots more adventures together.
