Sam the Shy Shark

Sam sat by himself. He was shy. If a fish of any sort said, “Hello,” Sam shot into the shade of a rock. Just one word made him blush and he swam off in a rush.

His Mum and Dad said it was a shame, but try as they might he would not share in any game. As far as sharks go, he was a sham and made a dash when shellfish shot across the sand.

A little wave made him shake. A ship coming near made him shiver and go as white as any sheet.

If Mum or Dad said anything sharp, he fled in a flash.

That is until one day when he saw Shelley the Shrimp go pink.

She was as shy as he. That was when Sam said, “It is a shame that we two fish can not have a bash at shocking the deep. We shall not rush, we shall not dash. We shall stand still and shut our eyes. Then all that makes us shake will be gone in a flash.”

Sam held out his fin and Shelley shot under it. A ship set out from the shore and with the Shrimp up close, Sam shut his eyes and kept so still. There was a hush and all the other fish began to shift.

Soon Shelley and Sam were in the crush of flapping fins as all the sea said, “Well done! You two have had a bash at being brave. You have done it well and now can show the crashing waves that sharks and shrimps are best of mates!”

You have never seen two fish so pink as they began to blush a shade of pink not seen before in any sea!
