Traditional Storytelling in Today's World

David is promoting the importance of Storytelling for all of us.  The art of communication becomes ever more valuable and oral history is on the point of dying out.  The tales and legends of our ancestors lie buried deep in the past but could be relevant to our future.  David can bring those tales and legends into the here and now, ready to be passed down through future generations.

He does this by:

  • Outlining the history of Storytelling - international, national and local
  • Telling tales from all over the world, from other areas of the United Kingdom as well as tales from his own area
  • Inviting challenges - the audience come up with characters, objects and settings - David will incorporate them all into a tale within seconds!
  • Inviting and listening to tales from the audience
  • A future project for David is to have areas on his website for different locations in the United Kingdom where people can have their own tales published for others to enjoy

Successes:

Apart from visiting schools around the country introducing Storytelling to the future generation, David had appeared on BBC Radio Leeds on two occasions meeting challenges from the listeners and encouraging them to produce their own tales.

(We believe a nifty tale was told by David about ghostly Rugby League Player - A glassblower from Pontefract and an ostrich!)

Radio Leeds then asked listeners to phone in with their own tales with the incentive of a copy of David's Dark Tales Tape or Myth and Magic CD as a reward!
