STORYCARDS - the Starter pack!

The more workshops and story performances that I do, the more my flabber is ghasted and the pinker I am tickled! You see, there's a magical secret that not too many share - and this is it….. Everyone is a storyteller! Admittedly, some are better at it than others to start with - but its only a case of taking a confidence pill and you can all be away. (Confidence pills are freely available. They just float about in the air. They can be difficult to find because they are invisible - but catch one and swallow it and it will make a world of difference.)

A few hints on form, shape and style are all you really need. People's lives are full of stories and you are no exception. There's the day your gran tried to defrost the fridge by just leaving the door open - she didn't know she had to turn off the plug - the day your cat was sick on the carpet and your brother hid it with talcum powder - the time you dived into the swimming pool and came up without your trunks - the day you played football and scored an own goal and the opposition carried you off, cheering your name.

Take a moment to share your favourite story about something silly you have done. Try it again with a tale about someone in your family. See? You are a Storyteller! All you need is a bit more material… a few more things to tell stories about. Here's a game to play and then you can go on to design your own.

The pack of cards is split into four groups. Get them printed off - even get them laminated and you'll have a game to take camping, on a school trip or a family holiday. You can do the same later with your own game. Think how impressed your friends will be on a boring wet afternoon when you can say: "I've got a card game we can play. I designed it!"

Here goes:

Print these off to create your pack of 24 cards. Work in groups of four or five. Deal out one card from each set to each person in the group. Set a time limit of about five minutes for every group member to grow their story IN THEIR HEAD. (Pens, pencils and paper are banned! You are not even allowed to chop the tip off your finger and write with the soggy end! These tales must be told)

Have a few goes with this set of cards - and then make your own pack. This can also be done in your group. If you get some really good ones - or a new set that should be included in the pack, email them to me and I'll put them into this starter pack for others to use.

NB: For Teachers - if you have packs of Storycards you would like to make available to others we will be happy to include them on our site - e-mail link below.

You can also e-mail me copies of the stories you have created.  We will be introducing "A Place for You" on the site and will publish your creations.  If you have images you would like to include just send them as attachments and we will publish those as well!!
